day nine: july 31, 2009.

i had to go to the seattle center tonight to pick my aunt and cousin up from a summer theatre production of *rent* and the space needle just looked so fancy from where i was parked so i had to snap a photo of it!

if you look closely, you can see the lighted elevator bringing people up to the top, where there is a magically retro, 360-degree revolving restaurant.

tonight the weather is perfect: cool, breezy and like i want the summer to feel. xo.

day eight: july 30, 2009.

this afternoon i was trying to catch a 4:30 bargain matinee of "(500) days of summer" at the guild theatre in wallingford, but thanks to random traffic missed it.

since i was already in kooky wallingford, i decided to pay a visit to the archie mcphee wonderland. (which - if you don't know - is an awesome junk/curiosity/amusement shop/mail order company here in seattle. it's MAGIC!) there i found this tray of TAXIDERMY EYES that was too awesome (and bizarre) not to take a snapshot of.

careful! they break if dropped!! ;)

wonder where they come from.......... xo.

day seven: july 29, 2009.

seattle heatwave '09! today's photo is kind of boring, but it has honestly been tooooo hottttt to stay outside for very long so this is what you get. and the weather is record-setting, so that's kind of a big deal.

anyway, that's what my iphone weather app had to say and it is sweltering. couldn't even go for my run this evening. whew! hopefully things cool down soon, but it looks like it's going to be pretty hot for pretty long. xo.

day six: july 28, 2009.

this afternoon i went with my aunt and cousin natalie to serve food to the homeless/needy.

i hadn't done it since high school and it was really fun. we prepped and cooked and then served everyone. the food was really great - all of the local farms and businesses donate whole food, organic food, fresh food so everything is really high quality and healthy.

they do it every tuesday and i think i'll be doing it again! xo.

day five: july 27, 2009.

this is one of my favorite things about summer in seattle.

i took this photo at nearly 10pm PST. normally, the sky would be pitch black but here it stays an eerie, glowing blue well into the late evenings. it's so deep blue sea and i love it! xo.

day four: july 26, 2009.

today my uncle took me to my very first major league baseball game, the seattle mariners v. the cleveland indians.

it was such a beautiful afternoon, and luckily our (great) seats were in the shade. too bad the mariners lost, but the wide selection of microbrews on tap and veggie-friendly meal offerings at the safeco stadium made it fun regardless! the kettle korn was especially tasty.

walking back to our car, we could smell and feel the salty breeze coming off of puget sound just a block away. so nice. xo.

day three: july 25, 2009.

this is my fancy new penguin friend, found on the streets of what i hope will be "our neighborhood," fremont. (a.k.a. the center of the universe. no, really... they call it the center of the universe. see? so it makes sense i should live here. heh.)

we met her today on our way for coffee at the fremont coffee house, which is an old victorian with a badass wrap-around porch where you can sip your coffee in breezy luxury. then we checked out a bunch of fun shops, like "show pony," (which is another reason i need to live in this neighborhood).

fancy, magical afternoon. xo.

day two: july 24, 2009.

this is green lake park. this photo was taken around 5:30pm (pacific time). i have been running there a few evenings this week. i absolutely love it! it has two trails, one is around the inside of the lake and that's 2.7 miles, and the other is around the park itself and that one is 2.9 miles.

there's a fancy historic playhouse on the lake, swimming areas, paddleboat rentals, an amphitheater, an indoor swimming complex and so much more. it's in the cutest neighborhood and is just really magical.

day one: july 23, 2009.

today started out cold and cloudy, but then by afternoon things warmed up and the sun came out in cloud-dappled splendor.

these hydrangeas are right outside the little cottage we're staying in until we find an apartment behind my aunt and uncle's house in laurelhurst. hydrangeas are my favorite garden flower with their purple and blue and cerulean magic, and they remind me of being small. especially in this light.
